We would like to thank all the farmers who entered the Blue River Hybrids Yield Club in 2009 and congratulate the winners. We invite you to plan to enter in the coming year. We have information about rules and awards if you'd like to enter.

Scott Shriver’s 66H54 was planted in a test plot with 20 different hybrids and finished 2nd in the plot. He also planted an entire field on 66H54 and it yielded 191 bushels per acre. “The Blue River products are very competitive. We had five Blue River hybrids in our test plot, with 20 hybrids total. Four of the five Blue River hybrids placed in the top spots,” said Scott.

Like many last season, Lynn Edelman’s planting was delayed by wet conditions. In spite of that, 66H54 still performed well. “66H54 is an all around good hybrid with nice healthy stalks and large kernels. We like it because we can use it in the food grade market as well. I purchase Blue River Seed because they are an organic seed company and I’d rather patronize their business than other non-organic companies,” Lynn explained.

This was Mike Lodge’s first year planting 57H36 and based on how it yielded this year, it probably won’t be his last. “57H36 has better yield and good standing corn. I like Blue River Hybrids products because they are organically certified, good quality seed with good yields,” commented Mike.

Steve Foth has planted 56M30 previously, but this year was the best year for it. “I choose 56M30 because of its consistency. The potential is there each year. Blue River products are consistent over varying topography and weather conditions,” said Steve.

Charles Nightengale grew 66H54 in a test plot with three hybrids of a competitor’s conventional untreated seed. The 66H54 out yielded the top performing conventional untreated hybrid in the plot by over 3 bushels per acre. “I’m impressed with the 66H54. It seems to be adapted for our part of the country, especially in this particular season. Blue River Hybrids are a benchmark for me, they’ve treated me well,” said Charles.

Elvin Hursh had a season similar to many in 2009- -- he planted his 58B07 on June 1st due to the weather and wasn’t able to get into the field to combine until December. “The 58B07 came up well and held up with the weather especially in this challenging season,” explained Elvin.

2009 was the second season that Kendall Shrock planted 63H07. His area, located east of the Quad Cities also experienced a wet spring and late harvest. “It pays to put the seed treatment on your seed, especially with this wet spring. Our emergence was really good,” Kendall said.
